SC grants Zee News producer protection from arrest in FIR’s over broadcasting doctored video of Rahul Gandhi

Narinder Singh has been granted interim protection arrest based on the FIR filed in the matter of airing of fabricated video of Rahul Gandhi’s speech.

Three FIRs were registered against the petitioner including Jaipur, Rajasthan, Raipur and Noida by Zee news.The complainant prayed to investigate and take appropriate actions towards the petitioner.

The bench allowed the investigation to continue in Jaipur and ordered to stop further proceedings in other two districts along with the future occuring issues. The court also directed not to take any coercive steps against Zee News producer in the matter of all the three FIRs or future arriving FIRs on the same.

In July, Rohit Ranjan, anchor of the telecast, was protected by any coercive action to be taken against him, which was tagged to the present case on request.

The Zee News aired a news on last month which consisted vedio of Rahul Gandhi who said murderers of Udaipur tailor Kanhaiya Lal to be forgiven but on doctored video represented that he forgives the youngsters vandalised his office in Kerala (Wayanad).

The anchor and the news team have apologized for the same.The petitioner argued that the company has coerced him to resign immediately to fasten responsibility on Singh.

The protection was granted on Monday.

The bench consisted of Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and A.S. Bopanna
