Israeli daily News agency reveled that the Israeli Police uses NSO’s Pegasus spyware to remotely hack the citizens’ phones, control them and extract the information from them. The news agency claimed that the persons whose phones were hacked are including the Mayors, leaders of opposite party who were protesting against the former Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, former government employees, person close to senior politicians and common people.
The news agency further also learned that the spying was not done under the supervision of the Court or with having a search or bugging warrant for surveillance. The Police planted the spyware in the phones of head of protesting leaders who were opposing the policies of Netanyahu while Netanyahu was in the government. And these leaders and activists who were protesting against the Netanyahu government after the 1st wave of Covid-19 for imposing lockdown during pandemic and making him responsible for slowdown of economy, have no knowledge of spying, servellience and controlling of their phones, and knowing all their conversations and read all messages.
Many times police used the spyware to collect the evidence from the accused persons, as using spyware Police used to know the evidences illegally, after that Police used to whitewash the evidence of illegal extraction of the evidence and then obtain the warrant from the judge to arrest the accused thus making the act of Police legal. Many times Police installed the spyware in the phone of the suspected people, who have never involved in any illegal activities. And the control of using of that data also lies in the hand of Police.
Minister of Public Security Omer Barlev while issuing the statement denied all such allegations and said there is no use of all such spyware without the permission of judge. On the other hand the Attorney General Avichai Mendelblit of Israel issued a letter to Police Chief seeking the explanation of the alleged use of Pegasus spyware.
