The Academic Fellowship is a flagship programme created by the University to nurture early career academics in research and teaching.
Academic Fellows are expected to contribute to the intellectual growth of the University and will be mentored by senior faculty members. In this background, applications are invited from academics and early career scholars in law.
Roles & Responsibilities
Academic Fellows are expected to undertake research and assist in teaching, if required, in relevant areas in consultation with the University.
Eligibility
- LL.M. (Law) from a recognised Indian or foreign university with a minimum of 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed), and a good academic record.
- For those applying with a relevant Master’s degree, there must be a clear and demonstrable track record of interdisciplinary research involving law.
- Prior research experience, including field work and data collection, is desirable.
- Applicants in this category should not have qualified for their first undergraduate degree before 01-01-2020.
- Demonstrable research track record in any one of the subjects mentioned in this call for applications. Interdisciplinary research will be considered an advantage.
Stipend
INR 50,000 per month (All inclusive).

About the Judicial Fellowship Program
The Judicial Fellowship Program, presented in partnership with the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation, is a professional exchange and residential learning experience for international judges and magistrates who are passionate about strengthening legal systems in their countries.
Fellows will join us from September 27 through October 12, 2025, for programming in Washington, DC, and Charlottesville, Virginia.

Judicial Fellowship Program Highlight
The Judicial Fellowship Program is designed to strengthen the legal systems in foreign countries by building a network of judicial leaders from around the world.
Working with the National Center for State Courts and our academic partners at the University of Virginia, we present a comprehensive and immersive program that combines theoretical knowledge with practical skills to foster critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and a deep understanding of the rule of law.
Teaching methods emphasize interactive exercises, case studies, simulations, and experiential learning.
Eligibility
The Program is designed for early- or mid-career judges and magistrates from countries in Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa, and the Americas. Ideal candidates will have a demonstrated commitment to upholding the Rule of Law in their respective jurisdictions.
Additional qualifications include five to seven years’ experience presiding over civil or criminal cases; a clear commitment to integrity and ethical conduct; a proven record of leadership; willingness to share and apply the knowledge, skills, and perspectives gained to advance the rule of law; strong communication and collaboration skills; and proficiency in English.
Washington
The Program opens in Washington, DC, with an exploration of the United States’ federal system of national and subnational courts and jurisdictions.
Fellows meet with legal experts from the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and other institutions. They learn tools and methods to evaluate judicial performance and professionalism, instill and uphold a judicial code of conduct, and advocate for internal reforms. Site visits include the U.S. Supreme Court and the National Archives.
Charlottesvilee
The Program concludes in Charlottesville, Virginia, where the Judicial Fellows will experience the region’s vibrant and diverse cultural activities and historic sites.
Working with leading faculty at the University of Virginia, the judges and magistrates will explore constitutionalism and other facets of U.S. jurisprudence, including criminal justice and human rights law. They will also hone their skills in opinion writing, mediation, collaboration and thought leadership.
