Directions for protection of Chittorgarh Fort from blasting activities issued by SC

The SC on Friday, issued directions that were for the protection of the Chittorgarh Fort, Rajasthan, against the blasting activities that are being conducted in the radius of its 5 k, for limestone mining.
The order was passed by the bench comprised of Justices Sanjiv Khanna and SVN Bhatti.
As per the order, the lessee should possess a valid lease under the law and then the activities within the 5 km radius of the Chittorgarh Fort can be allowed.
The bench had also directed the constitution of an expert committee within 2 weeks. This has been done for a study to be conducted to examine the environmental pollution as well as the impact that the blasting operations are leaving on the fort.
The committee will be constituted by the chairman of the Indian Institute of Technology, Dhanbad Jharkhand and will consist of a team of multi-disciplinary experts.
The observation was made by the court after perusing the CBRI Roorkee’s report, the report of the Ministry of Coal and Mining, and the submission of the parties.
