The Supreme Court College on March 6 recommended that Jammu’s judge and the Superior Court of Kashmir, Atul Sreedharan, be repatriated to its parent court: the Superior Court of Madhya Pradesh.
Judge Sredharan was transferred from Madhya Pradesh to Jammu and Kashmira in April 2023 after the judge himself sought the transfer for his daughter who entered legal practice in Madhya Pradesh.
The Collegium has now recommended that they transfer it back to Madhya Pradesh.
“The Supreme Court College at its meeting held on March 6, 2025 has recommended the repatriation of Mr. Justice Atul Sreedharan, Judge, Superior Court of Jammu and Cashmira and Ladakh, to its Superior Court of Parents, that is, the Superior Court of Madhya Pradesh,” a statement published by the College on the website of the Supreme Court.
Judge Sredharan was the young senior lawyer and former lawyer Gopal Subramanium from 1992 to 1997.
From 1997 to December 2000, he practiced independently in Delhi before moving to Indore in 2001. He then served as a lawyer for the state and central government, before being appointed additional judge of the Superior Court of Madhya Pradesh in April 2016.
He was appointed permanent judge of that superior court on March 17, 2018.
