Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Repatriation of Justice Atul Sreedharan
The Supreme Court Collegium, in its meeting on March 6, 2025, recommended Justice Atul Sreedharan’s return to the Madhya Pradesh High Court. He currently serves as a judge at the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Justice Sreedharan initially joined the Madhya Pradesh High Court as a judge on April 7, 2016. In early 2023, he requested a transfer, citing concerns about a potential conflict of interest. His elder daughter was set to begin her legal practice and would appear before the District Court and the Indore Bench of the High Court. To maintain judicial integrity, he sought relocation.
Recognizing his concerns, the Supreme Court Collegium recommended his transfer to the Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court on March 28, 2023. After serving there for nearly two years, he is now set to return to his parent High Court.
Born on May 24, 1966, Justice Sreedharan earned his law degree and began practicing in 1992. He trained under Senior Advocate Gopal Subramanium before establishing his independent practice in Delhi and later in Indore. His expertise spans criminal, civil, and service law. Over the years, he represented both government and private clients.
With this recommendation, Justice Sreedharan is expected to resume his role at the Madhya Pradesh High Court soon.
