The Koli fishing community has moved to the Bombay HC for compensation for the loss caused to them by the Mumbai Trans Harbour link, also known as the Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Atal Setu.

Mari Aai Machimar Sahkari Sanstha Maryadit had filed the petition, representing the Koli fisherfolk community from various villages of Vashigaon, Juhugaon, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli, Gothivali, Diva and Belapur.

They have claimed that the construction has caused a loss of livelihood as fish production has declined.

It was stated that the fisheries department and other experts had determined that there had been a change in the tidal currents, which caused a decrease in the fish stock. This has severely impacted the livelihood of the fisher folk.

It said that the authorities have admitted that compensation would be provided, but they failed to deliver the same.

This has severely affected their fundamental rights mentioned under Articles 14, 19, and 21 of the Indian Constitution, along with a severe violation of their customary rights.

The petition is further listed on 28th August before the division bench comprising of Justice BP Colabawalla and Justice Firdosh Pooniwala
