The Delhi High Court on Wednesday dismissed a petition seeking the establishment of a Board for the Preservation of Sanatan Dharma on the lines of the Waqf Board for the Protection of Hindu Religion.
A bench headed by Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Tushar Rao Gedela said the matter fell within the realm of politics and the courts could not interfere. “There is nothing we can do about it,” said Chief Justice Manmohan.
The court proceeded to dispose of the plea, stating that the petitioner may approach the government with a request for appropriate measures. The plea by the Sanatan Hindu Sewa Sangh Trust alleged that followers of Sanatan Dharma were being attacked by followers of another religion.
The petitioner claimed that there was no religious body to protect the rights and practices of Sanatana Dharma and therefore sought the creation of such a body.
It was noted that the petitioner’s representation to the government did not meet with any response, which led to the action before the Court.
