The court on Wednesday denied bail to all the 5 accused i.e. 4 co-owners of the coaching centre and the SUV driver, who were arrested for the death of three civil services aspirants due to flooding in the basement of coaching centres.
Judicial magistrate Vinod Kumar of Tiz Hazari court denied bail to the SUV Driver named Manuj Kathuria, who was allegedly arrested for driving his car through the rain-flooded street, causing the water to rise and breach the building gates which further led to flooding.
The advocate representing Kathuria contended that there is no connection of his act with the incident and he is being wrongly blamed for it. However, the additional Public Prosecutor Atul Srivastava argued that he “aggravated the incident”
Advocate Amit Chadha appearing for the basement owners blamed the civic agencies for their irresponsibility and contended that it was an act of god.
Thus, after reviewing the arguments, denied bail to all the 5 accused.
The court also highly condemned the Delhi police and questioned the investigation. “What is police doing catching passersby driver? Have you questioned the person who has not done the desilting?”
Lastly, the court sought the response of the Delhi Police and Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and listed the matter for hearing on August 2.
