BCI’s functions should be devised as excessive workload is affecting Legal Profession.

Senior Advocate Dr. Abhishek Manu Singhvi on Monday talked about dividing the responsibility of Bar Council of India to regulate the Legal Profession because currently BCI has its hands full of responsibilities such as Law reform, disciplining lawyers, legal education etc.

He pointed out that due to this wide range of functions, there is a possibility of arising a situation where compromises can be made and, therefore, he suggested creating a national assessment body independent of BCI including CJI.

The Senior Advocate was speaking on the topic ‘Future of Legal Education: Glocalisation of Legal Profession?’ as part of the American Bar Association India Conference 2023.

In this conference he highlighted the lack of attention given to legal education, lack of law teachers, colleges, need for distributive equity and an organised computerised national plan for placement, internship and training of law students as well as legal practitioner.

In the ceremony, Justice Sanjay Karol also shared his thoughts on the matter.
