Last Updated on May 2, 2024 by News Desk

The division bench comprising Chief Justice Manmohan and Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora remarked that the court cannot pass the sought directions during the election and it has faith in the Election Commission of India that appropriate action.

Senior advocate Jayant Mehta had appeared on behalf of the petitioner and argued that any political advertisement meant for the print and electronic media is certified by the ECI. Therefore, it should also regulate these on social media.

The court said that it is difficult to do so. The interactions of the politicians also take place on the streets.

The court asked the petitioner to file a representation with the ECI and the same gets decided by 6th May.

The court also remarked that the ECI can also think of passing any dynamic injunction so that the deepfake videos are also disabled.

However, the court refused to pass any directions to ECI to formulate any of the guidelines.
