The Supreme Court has criticized comments made by the Indian Medical Association (IMA) President Dr RV Asokan against the top court in relation to the Patanjali misleading ads case.

A Bench of Justices Hima Kohli and J. Ahsanuddin Amanullah expressed their objection after Senior Advocate Mukul Rohatgi highlighted the IMA President’s comments in an interview to the media.Rohatgi criticized the court’s interference and called for the interview to be brought on record.

The IMA, the petitioner in the case against Patanjali, had faced adverse comments from the court on April 23. The court had instructed the IMA to address unethical practices in modern medicine and hospitals, such as prescribing expensive medicines. The IMA President reportedly criticized the Supreme Court’s criticism of the IMA and private doctor’s practices, stating that the “vague and generalised statements” had demoralized private doctors. The news wire interview was published by various media organizations, including The Economic Times.

Rohtagi filed a contempt application against the court, and the court allowed Rohtagi to bring the interview on record. Justice Amanullah clarified that the interview may be placed on record to determine the court’s future course of action.
