Justice Ashok Bhushan will retire on July 4. Today was his last working day. Conventionally, a farewell reference was arranged for Justice Bhushan at the court.
Symbolizing the day as “sad day”, Attorney General of India KK Venugopal remembered the directions issued by Justice Bhushan in various judgments which alleviated the sufferings of people during covid (the directions issued to provide dry ration, community kitchens, etc). Attorney General further stated, “The loss is going to be great for legal community and judiciary and the population of this country. It is very sad that Justice Bhushan is leaving us”.
Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta expressed his views as, “The decorum maintained by his lordship in Court, the respect shown for the members of the Bar and concern for common man are exemplary. His Lordship will always be missed.”
Senior Advocate Vikas Singh spotlighted upon the humbleness of Justice Bhushan, whereas Shivaji Jadhav, President of Supreme Court Advocates on Record Association told about Justice Bhushan’s interest in social justice.
Remarking upon Justice Bhushan’s farewell, Chief Justice of India NV Ramana stated, “Justice Bhushan’s journey has truly been remarkable, and his journey as legal professional has been marked by many milestones. His judgements stand testimony to his welfarist and humanistic approach. Justice Bhushan will certainly be remembered and thanked for his judicial con contribution. I recently saw his interview where he said, ‘The Judges are only known by their judgements. Judgments are the only true criteria for testing the mettle of a Judge. Judges delivering the greatest of decisions are justifiably remembered. Justice Ashok Bhushan will always be remembered for his judgments”.
Before being appointed as judge of Supreme Court of India, Justice Bhushan had served as the Chief Justice of Kerala High Court.
