COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT: (FIR) has been registered by the Mumbai Police against Google’s (CEO), Sundar Pichai

A renowned Bollywood Director of movie ‘ek haseena thi ek dewana tha’ named Suneel Darshan, recently filed an FIR with Andheri Police and imposed cognizable charges of piracy and copyright infringement under section 51, 63 & 69 of copyright act against- Gautam Anand MD of YouTube India, Padma Bhushan Awrdee & CEO of Google Inc. Sundar Pichai.
Soon after registration of such peculiar FIR, the case was taken up by Addn. chief Metropolitan Magistrate of Andheri, Mumbai, Justice AA Panchbhai u/s 156(3) of crpc.
During the hearing of the registered case, the complainant contended that he had filed several complaints with YouTube, but no action was taken.
Further, the pleader stated that his 2017 released movie being uploded on YouTube was prima facie violation of his rights since the movie has now garnered billions of views after being illegally uploaded on YouYube and is generating revenue of which he is not a beneficiary.

Thereafter, hearing the contentions raised by the applicant party the Addn. CMM observed that “the issue of piracy and copyright infringement have become a menace due to rapid advancement of technology and it cause huge loss of money to film and television industry.”
The court further disposed off the case while transporting the case to MIDC Police Station u/s 156(3) for further investigation.
