All citizens of the world should work tirelessly to sustain liberty, freedom, democracy: CJI NV Ramana in USA

Written By- Pretika Tiwari

On Saturday, Chief Justice of India (CJI) NV Ramana urged people to work relentlessly to protect and advance liberty and democracy. The CJI visited the Independence Hall in Philadelphia, USA, where in 1776, the Second Continental Congress signed the Declaration of Independence, after which the Constitution of the United States of America was created and signed. After his visit, the CJI said that the monument marks a historic moment in human civilization and that “All democracies have been inspired by the values which originated from this sacred place. It represents inviolable guarantees and promises definitive of human dignity and existence. Standing in this historic hall, one cannot but be moved by the bravery, spirit and ideals that motivated the founding fathers of the United States of America that continue to resonate even today, across the globe.” CJI stated that it becomes absolutely essential for all the citizens of the world to relentlessly work towards sustaining the ideals of liberty, freedom and democracy that our forefathers have fought for. And this kind of tribute will be worthy of their sacrifices.

The CJI gave the opening speech at the Annual Meet of the Indo-German Chamber of Commerce earlier this week in Dortmund, Germany, with the theme ‘Arbitration in a Globalized World- The Indian Experience.’
