Mr Sayendra Jain has been sent to judicial custody, on Monday, over the money laundering case, which was being probed by the Enforcement Directorate. The decision came after five days of ED custody that expired today. The Aam Aadmi Party minister was arrested last month, and later ED had sought Mr Jain’s custody for 14 days in the concerned matter.

Mr Jian had filed a bail application before the Special CBI Judge Geetanjali Goel, which is scheduled to be heard tomorrow. For the concerned matter, the Trial Court directed the counsel appearing for Mr Jain to be present during the interrogation.

The agency had attached the assets worth rupees 4.18 crore from five companies and others in relation to a purported disproportionate assets case involving Jain and others. All these properties were in the name of the companies Akinchan Developers, Indo Metalimpex, Paryas Infosolutions, Mangalayatan Projects and JJ Ideal Estate etc. ED, in an earlier statement had said, “During the period 2015-16, when Satyendar Kumar Jain was a public servant, the above-mentioned companies beneficially owned and controlled by him received accommodation entries to the tune of Rs.4.81 crore from shell companies against cash transferred to Kolkata-based entry operators through ‘hawala’ route.”

This case of money laundering is based on an FIR filed by the CBI in 2017 under the Prevention of Corruption Act against the minister and other persons, alleging that the minister acquired assets disproportionate to his known sources of income between February 2015 and May 2017. In December 2018, the CBI filed a charge sheet against Jain.
