Naee Roshni Social Organisation vs MMRDA& Anr

In this case Bombay HC directs petitioner to deposit ₹1 lakh to hear the plea filed to change the name of the metro station. The petitioner agreed for the same.

The plea challenges the change in the name of the metro station from ‘pathanwadi’ to ‘dindoshi’. The revenue village of Malad had 3 stations in which one was on line 7 and the other two on line 2A. The station on Line 7 was called as ‘pathanwadi’ by MMRDA.

The petitioner argued due to undue political influence and pressure by MLA’s the name was changed from ‘pathanwadi’ to ‘dindoshi’. This effects the sentiments of the residents of ‘pathanwadi’ and violates Article 14 of Indian Constitution.

The residents have equal rights to protect their residency and geographical existence to safeguard the culture and history. By renaming the metro station has violated fundamental rights (Art. 14, 29 & 30) of the residents the petitioner added.

Thus the petition left unanswered.
